Description: 

The work consists generally of: the supply of all labour, materials, equipment, and services necessary to complete the removal, handling, loading, hauling, and disposal of sludge currently stored within geotextile dewatering bags (geobags) at the Lancaster Wastewater Treatment Facility (WWTF), all in accordance with the Drawings and these Specifications.


The sludge addressed under this Contract has been previously removed from the lagoon and dewatered within geobags located on-site. No dredging, lagoon excavation, or sludge removal from within the active lagoon is included as part of the Work. The Work shall be coordinated to maintain continuous WWTF operations and required site access at all times.


More specifically, the work includes, but is not limited to, the following:
 Accessing and removing approximately 3,245 tonnes of dewatered sludge (~40% solids) from existing geobags in a controlled manner;
 Loading, hauling, and off-site disposal of sludge at an approved facility in accordance with applicable municipal, provincial, and federal regulations;
 Management and control of residual liquids, leachate, or free water encountered during sludge removal, including collection and disposal as directed by the Engineer;
 Supply and implementation of appropriate dust, odour, and environmental control measures during handling and hauling operations;
 Protection of existing WWTF infrastructure, access roads, utilities, and operational areas within and adjacent to the Work limits;
 Coordination of Work sequencing and access with the City of Saint John and WWTF Operations staff to maintain safe access and uninterrupted facility operations;
 Removal and off-site disposal of exposed liner beneath the geobags designated for removal, including regrading of the sludge pad granular base as required;
 Site cleanup and restoration of disturbed areas following completion of sludge removal activities; and
 All other related work all as shown in the drawings and as described in these  specifications.
